Landslide
Music has played such a profound importance in my life. Which may explain why my day job is an elementary music teacher.
I mentioned before that in the Waldorf tradition, music is a vibration that connects us to the spiritual experience.
I cannot think of any religious practice that does not have an element of music, with the exception of some conservative Muslim traditions.
In the Christian tradition, Music echoes through the worship halls and churches of all sizes, shapes, and varieties. Chant, traditional, or even contemporary, music.
Songs can act as anthems marking important milestones or experiences like a chapter in a novel yet to be completed. The poetry and song structure of a song takes on a spiritual quality.
The song “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac is just such a bookmark to me.
To be fair, I have heard the song thousands of times. However, I didn’t fully appreciate the song until I experienced something that not only knocked me to my knees, I experienced a “landslide”.
Mumford and sons in the song “Timshel” sings “death is at your door-step, and it will steal your innocence, but it will not steal your substance”.
There is value in making mistakes, there is value in getting knocked to your knees. There is value in unmet expectations. There is value in change. There is value in finding a better hill to climb. There is value in the struggle. There is value in the journey.
And if you find yourself on the completely wrong path, sometimes a “landslide” is required as a reset your journey.
I would not take anything for my experiences. Each one in total made me the person I am today and will serve to color who I will be tomorrow. It has shaped my substance.
Cheers to earning our journey, our substance.
Much love,
