Fishing

This week we ventured out on a fishing expedition.   We  used live meal worms (yes, I baited the hooks) to catch live brim fish to use as bait for live catfish.

I have been fishing before,  but this was my first time setting “noodles” overnight.   We caught several good size catfish but they were what was called “mud” catfish that won’t  taste very good. So we threw them back.

You know it’s funny putting a line in the water with live bait. Fish will eat other fish without any hesitation. In some cultures we might call that “cannibals”.

It made me think of our current “cancel culture”.

There i a difference between being in a position to foster growth and just being a bully.  The world doesn’thave to agree with you even if your correct.  They just might be on a different timeline.

It is a grace to respect someone’s journey and to trust that they will get where they need to be.

Even if you are morally correct,  it is naive to think that everyone else has to be in the same place on their journey as you. That my friends is called narcissism.

I wish, in these struggling times,  we could be a bit more patient with our fellows.  That we could try to see their journey through their eyes even if we don’t agree.

Mostly,  that we could be kinder to one another and gentler to each other.  Maybe someday you will want someone to be gentler and kinder to you.
